young people come across and may use. To find out about a particular drug,

How much do I need to know about drugs?
Use this section for basic information so you can talk to your child in
a more informed way.
If you think your child is using a drug, you should find information here
to help you think about how to deal with that.
If you know that your teenager is using, and you want to know more so
you can offer them support, then it will provide a starting point.
What about all the stuff they put in the papers and on TV?
Editors print stories that sell papers. TV producers want to raise viewing
figures. So they focus on the sensational stories, the lurid headlines.
They sometimes bend the “truth”, and the public suffers by
not being given accurate information.
What about all the slang words? What’s the difference between
‘dope’ and ‘weed’?
It’s easy to worry about understanding the right words so we don’t
look foolish in front of our teenagers. Young people have always had a
language of their own that adults aren’t supposed to understand.
The words they use are fashionable one day and out the next. Young people
themselves have trouble keeping up.
Why not ask your children? Don’t let pride stop you. It could make
a huge difference!
