I'm worried about the risks

Good. It means you’re interested in your children’s welfare. It’s hard for them to avoid drugs these days. Your aim is to help them to get through adolescence as safely as possible. Not only that, it can help them learn how to manage other risks for the rest of their life – an opportunity for you as a parent. Some drugs give an adrenalin rush – excitement, like bungee jumping or skate-boarding. The way you prepare for dangerous activities and the way you handle them is what increases your chances of survival.

Naturally, there’s good news and bad news about drugs:

Bad news
Drug use is risky and can be dangerous. Some young people are more vulnerable than others.

Good news
Most young people are sensible about drugs. Only a small percentage continue to use drugs after they’ve experimented with them. Much of what you read about drugs in the popular press is misleading. You can make a difference.
